THE INSTITUTE

The Goal of the Institute is to continually strive to perfect HAPKIDO skills and techniques. This includes beginning through advanced punches, kicks, blocks and elbow strikes. The Institute was founded to provide quality instruction at an affordable cost. All of the traditional and technical aspects of HAPKIDO are taught. This will enable each student to develop: coordination, balance, speed, physical stamina, concentration and self confidence.
The Hapkido Karate Fitness Institute, Inc. now affiliated with the WAY OF THE DRAGON - SHAOLIN KUNG FU. The school is located in Aurora, Illinois (Near the Fox Valley Mall). Please call (630)-375-0827 for more information, direction or if you wish to sign up for a class.
One of the offerings is an Intensive High Risk Martial Arts Class. ACTIVE INSTRUCTORS
Jude De Angelo, 4th Degree
Charles Decrucq, 1st Degree
Bill Kapsalis, 1st Degree
Fred Lowy, 1st Degree
THE FOCUS
Self Defense Skills - are established for each belt level. The skills require minimal to no physical power to apply. HAPKIDO skills are easy to learn and remember. The proper execution of a skill (DO) requires the bringing together of mental and physical energy (KI) into a flowing motion (HAP).
Self Defense Application/Drills are required at each belt level. This will assist the student in learning how to respond quickly to an attacker. Hapkidoist must always be ready to invent, devise and create new combinations and ideas and application of self defense skills to deal with any circumstance.
Forms consist of a sequence of movements and is a reflection of the student's martial art attitude. As the student internalizes forms, self defense skills and applications will become more fluid.
The study of the SHINAI (Bamboo Sword) (pronounced SHIN - EYE) (Kendo influence), short stick and cane are used by HAPKIDO for self defense. The study of these various "tools" will enable the student to further develop reaction time.
The continued practice of HAPKIDO principles will assist the student in developing a Soft (Respect and Courtsey) Outside and a Hard (Integrity, Wisdom, Perseverance, Self Control and Spirit) Inside.
